Kirtland Federal Credit Union (KFCU) donated $3,500 for the purchase of a new hearing machine for the children at Alta Mira Specialized Family Services. Alta Mira supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities from birth throughout their lifespan.Supporting children and families in the Albuquerque Metro area is one of the key tenets of KFCU.
According to the 2019 KIDS COUNT Data Book, NM ranked last for the second year in a row in Child Well-Being. The Early Intervention (EI) services (for children age zero to three) that Alta Mira provides have many long-term benefits for our families and community.
“Our hope with this donation is that the next generation of our community grows up healthy and strong with the support they need and deserve. We’re proud to support Alta Mira in their mission to make that happen,” said Tom Shoemaker, President/CEO Kirtland Federal Credit Union.
“It is vital to diagnose a child who is deaf or hard of hearing as soon as possible, especially when parents and pediatricians have concerns with a child’s speech and language development. If we can’t hear, how can we learn to speak? Hearing screenings are also mandated by early-intervention practice standards, but no funding is given to purchase equipment.” Angelique Tafoya, Executive Director of Alta Mira.
